Is Black really a color?

Question

Is Black really a color?
I hear a lot of people saying that black is not a color, they say only bright ones like red, yellow, green etc. are colors but not black. Is that true?

Answer

Theres a lot of halfright answers here. brbrFirst, it depends what youre talking about specifically. In reference to light, black is not a color, because it is the absence of light.brbrOn the other hand, if youre making black paint like carbon black, black is essentially the presence of all colors.brbrWhite is exactly the opposite. A white light includes the entire visible spectrum, whereas white paint is basically the absence of any spectral colors, therefore it reflects them all. brbrIn truth, both black and white are quotneutralquot colors, because they either include all of the visible spectrum or none of it.
